ABPBC Names New Executive Director
April 25th, 2022
The board of the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia (ABPBC) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director. Matea Kulić assumed the position on April 19, 2022. Kulić comes to the ABPBC following a substantial tenure at The Capilano Review where she fostered a culture of collaboration while providing effective leadership. Kulić guided the organization through a period of tremendous growth while supporting artists, contributors, and staff. Committed to inclusion, diversity and accessibility, Kulić is uniquely qualified to build on the solid foundations at the ABPBC and help guide publishers forward as the association implements a new strategic plan and undergoes a rebranding exercise.
Current Executive Director Heidi Waechtler is moving on to another position in publishing. Heidi worked tirelessly on behalf of BC’s book publishers, authors and readers for more than five years and was instrumental in strengthening BC’s vibrant publishing industry, raising the profile of the sector and working to increase the reach of the association’s advocacy and marketing efforts.
“Heidi was an energetic and engaged executive director and had a huge impact on the direction of our association,” said board chair Andrew Wooldridge. “While we will miss her, we are excited about the potential that Matea brings to our organization.”
Matea is keen to take on the challenge of the next stage of ABPBC’s strategic and advocacy goals alongside its dedicated board and staff. “I strongly believe in the value BC publishers and industry partners bring to our community of writers, readers, and educators,” she said. “I look forward to contributing my skills and energy towards ensuring this value continues to be recognized.”
