Please visit BooksForSchools.ca, which hosts digital editions of the 2021/22 BC Books for Schools and Indigenous Books for Schools catalogues. The books in these catalogues have been thoughtfully reviewed by one or more BC educators in terms of connection to K–12 curriculum, appropriateness of reading level, and suitability of content for the K–12 classroom.

All the evaluators who work on the annotations in the Indigenous Books for Schools catalogue identify as Indigenous. Our Indigenous education consultant Jackie Lever, a Métis educator, has developed a special worksheet to evaluate books for authentic Indigenous Voice.

For the past two years we have compiled BC Books for BC Libraries catalogues for display at the BC Library Association’s virtual conference:

In Spring 2020 we compiled the BC Books for BC Libraries digital catalogue to support librarians in discovering recently published BC books:

We also have a catalogue from our Check Us Out! event with publishers and librarians, which includes the latest titles from BC-publishers:

In Fall 2018, we sent out the inaugural BC Book Box for Schools. All the items included in the box were reviewed by an active teacher librarian, who assessed them for suitability in a K–12 setting and assigned appropriate BC-specific curriculum links and study units, which were noted on the enclosed brochure.

Read Local BC is a project to celebrates the vibrant community of authors, publishers, bookstores, and libraries that make up our province’s literary landscape.
