It’s Awards Season . . .

Many ABPBC members have books nominated for this year’s Alberta Literary Awards. For the Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction Brindle & Glass’ A Raw Mix of Carelessness and Longing by Cecilia Frey has made the list along with Oolichan Books’ Delivery by Betty Jane Hagerat. Douglas & McIntyre’s Merchant Kings by Stephen Bown is nominated for the Wilfred Eglleston Award for Nonfiction, and Anvil Press’ Frenzy by Catherine Owen is nominated for the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry.

Alcuin Society Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada list has just been released. Congratulations to designer Peter Cocking of Douglas & McIntyre for second prize in the Prose Fiction category for Daniel O’Thunder and for second prize in the Prose Non-Fiction illustrated category for The Men who Killed Me. Douglas & McIntyre also took third place in that category for Naomi MacDougall’s design for Six String Nation. Naomi also took third prize in the Reference category for Douglas & McIntye’s Araxi. Also congrats to CCSP Press who took two honourable mentions for designer Roberto Dosil’s covers for The Story Behind the Book and Translators on Translating.

Arsenal Pulp Press has been nominated for the CBA’s Libris Award for Small Press of the Year. Well done Arsenal.

Douglas & McIntyre’s Araxi: Seasonal Recipes from the Celebrated Whistler Restaurant has been nominated for the James Beard Foundation Award in the Cooking from a Professional Point of View category.
