Job Posting: In-House Editor at Whitecap Books

Whitecap Books is one of Canada’s leading independent book publishers, specializing inculinary literature and lifestyle books. We are currently seeking a talented, organized, and detail-orientated individual to join our team in the full-time position of in-house Editor.

Duties

  • Copy edit and proofread manuscripts, designed book pages, reprint corrections, and bluelines (interest in substantive editing a plus)
  • Edit and help draft marketing copy and cover copy
  • Maintain editorial standards and ensure adherence to house style and processes
  • Work with freelance staff (substantive editors, copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers) to offer grammar guidance and watch for adherence to Whitecap style
  • Work with authors to fine-tune manuscripts and answer queries on house style
  • Attend bi-weekly production meetings and report on the status of projects you are working on


  • Qualifications

  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines while still maintaining high standards
    for quality
  • Superior communications skills
  • An eye for detail and a passion for finding and correcting errors
  • High level of proficiency in Word, Excel, and digital file management, and familiarity with electronic editing and efficient workflow
  • Previous editorial experience and/or publishing courses/training
  • Knowledge of editorial markup, book production, design principles, and book conventions
  • Knowledge of and passion for food and wine an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete an editing test.

    Position available immediately. Salary based on experience.
