Job Posting: Assistant to the Publisher, New Imprint of Random House of Canada

Random House of Canada is seeking an assistant to the group’s new imprint who will work closely with the Publisher on a variety of tasks associated with the acquisition and publication of titles; and also to meet the organizational, editorial and clerical needs of the Publisher on a daily basis.
The position requires a diplomatic, energetic person with a basic understanding of the editorial, marketing and publishing process. This is a fast-paced job that requires good judgment; a passionate interest in books and authors, and the business of publishing them; a willingness to take on a variety of tasks; and the ability to keep oneself and others on track. It requires a person who is detail-oriented, with a sense of initiative and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will have an essential interest in food, wine and lifestyles and a broad range of knowledge and editorial skills that will enable them to make a significant contribution to the editing of various titles, to preparing sales and marketing materials for those titles, and to reading and evaluating manuscripts and proposals on submission at the direction of the Publisher.
This position is located in Vancouver, British Columbia and will be a 3 day a week position, which will increase to 5 days within a year or possibly sooner. The applicant will work with the publisher to build the new imprint and its roster of authors as well as profile.
The ideal candidate will have a university degree, experience and/or education in editing and proofreading, and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
