ABPBC PRESS RELEASE: Good News for the Book Publishing Community in BC

February 1st, 2013

Today’s announcement that Heritage House Publishing has acquired all the assets of former D&M Publishers’ imprint, Greystone Books, is welcome news for the BC book publishing industry recently rocked with the dismal news that D&M had filed for creditor protection

“Greystone Books has published some very important Canadian books over the years,” noted Robert Ballantyne, President of the Association of Book Publishers of BC, “The publishing community is thrilled that Greystone has come to an arrangement with Heritage House Publishing that will allow them both to continue producing quality books and to remain in British Columbia.”

The Heritage Group consists of three companies with their own distinctive publishing programs: Heritage House Publishers, TouchWood Editions, and Rocky Mountain Books. The addition of Greystone Books complements  the work of these companies and will contribute greatly to The Heritage Group’s commitment to publishing and promoting distinctive works by Canadian authors.

The book publishing industry throughout the world is undergoing enormous change. BC publishers have been working diligently and creatively to embrace the shift to digital books, to enhance their print publishing lists and to find competitive solutions to the complexities of the retail market in Canada. Despite the challenging environment, there are many significant success stories in trade, children’s, literary, scholarly and educational publishing in the province. The Association of Book Publishers of BC is delighted that the good news stories continue with this announcement.
